HEADLINE: Report: IDF to Reverse Decision Declaring Sultan Yaakoub MIAs Dead

BYLINE: IsraelNN.com

The army has agreed not to pronounce the three soldiers of the June 11, 1982 battle at Sultan Yaakoub dead, deciding to continue efforts to locate them.

According to the report in the daily Ha'aretz, the IDF planned to declare them dead without knowing their place of burial, leading to the family of one of the soldiers, Yehuda Katz, to petition the Supreme Court. While the petition was filed a number of months ago, the court's decision came a day before IDF Chief Chaplain Brigadier-General Rabbi Yisrael Weiss was to have made the official announcement.

As a direct result of the court's intervention, the military has agreed to permit the three to remain listed as 'missing in action', and continue efforts towards their return.
